According to the Mehr reporter, Ayatollah Mohammadi Laeini, on Sunday afternoon, in a meeting with the manager, teachers and staff of the Shahid Motahari Girls' High School of Islamic Teachings and Sciences in Sari, emphasizing the central role of teachers in shaping the character of students, stated: Education without attention to morality and religious upbringing cannot lead to the desired growth of society, and in return, religious upbringing must not end at the price of inattention to knowledge and scientific progress.
Stating that education and upbringing are two inseparable parts of the educational system, he added: Having knowledge and expertise can be placed on the right path when it is accompanied by morality, spirituality and responsibility; because knowledge without proper upbringing may, instead of serving society, become a ground for harm.
The representative of the Supreme Leader in Mazandaran, referring to the position of the schools of Islamic teachings and sciences, stated: The students of these schools must also be pioneers in the scientific and academic arena, and, alongside obtaining educational successes, also have a worthy position in Quranic and moral activities and in learning religious rulings.
Teachers Should Be Role Models for Students by Their Behavior
Mohammadi Laeini, citing the hadith "Be callers of the people without your tongues," emphasized the importance of the effect of teachers' behavior in the upbringing of the young generation and said: Students, in addition to what they hear from the teacher's tongue, also take his behavior and conduct as a model; therefore, the responsibility of the teacher is not limited to teaching the content of textbooks.
He continued: Teachers, alongside specialized teaching, also have a role in the moral and spiritual cultivation of students, and one cannot be indifferent toward subjects such as prayer, morality, divine teachings and the culture of self-sacrifice and martyrdom. The character and performance of the teacher can have a lasting effect on the formation of students' beliefs and attitudes.
Religious Upbringing Must Be Accompanied by Revolutionary Insight
The representative of the Supreme Leader in Mazandaran considered having a revolutionary spirit and knowledge of political and social issues among the other necessary dimensions of upbringing and stated: Adherence to religious rites must be accompanied by knowledge of the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, attention to the concepts of jihad and martyrdom, and sensitivity toward oppression and domination.
He, referring to Imam Khomeini's view about American Islam, warned against indifference in the face of the developments of the Islamic world and the issues related to Palestine and Gaza, and emphasized the necessity of awareness-raising for the adolescent and young generation in the face of domineering currents.
Ayatollah Mohammadi Laeini, in another part of his remarks, criticizing Western patterns in the field of education and upbringing, said about the 2030 Document: The summary and ultimate aim of teachings such as this document was the upbringing of forces in the country's schools for America.
He, in the end, counted the upbringing of a generation possessing knowledge, commitment, insight and responsibility among the important goals of the educational system and emphasized: Schools must provide the ground for the simultaneous scientific, moral, religious and revolutionary growth of students so that they can play a role on the path of the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.
