The head of the Islamic Council of Tehran, outlining the latest state of the metro wagon contract and the irrigation of the Chitgar park trees, announced the continued follow-up of these matters.

- Mehdi Chamran, on the sidelines of the 441st session of the Islamic Council of Tehran, referring to today's council agenda, stated: "Reviewing the operating bylaw of the city's electronic services offices, four audit reports, reviewing registration plaques, amending the orchards law and an investment plan are among the items on today's session agenda."

Organizing Tehran's Tourism Complexes Within a Single Company

On the activities of the Milad Tehran tourism company, the head of Tehran's council said: "Previously, a company existed in this field, but we did not have a strong custodian to handle tourism affairs. For this reason, it was decided that tourism complexes would be organized within a single company, and the Milad Tehran tourism company began its activities with this same goal."

Stating that the company's measures are progressing well, he added: "Tourism in Tehran is still weak, and many citizens are unfamiliar with part of the capital's historical attractions. We hope launching this company will help develop the city's tourism."

Emphasis on Supplying the Water the Chitgar Trees Need

In response to a question about the drying of the trees in the Chitgar forest park, Chamran stated: "The district mayor was supposed to attend the council to give explanations on this matter."

Referring to the resolution of the Chitgar park water-supply problem over the past two years, he said: "If this step had not been taken, the other trees would also have been at risk of drying up. Similar measures have been taken in the other sections as well."

The head of Tehran's council continued: "We have set aside a budget for irrigating green spaces and drawn up a plan so that we do not face problems in this regard. Our goal is to no longer use wells for irrigating green spaces."

Responding to More Than 99 Percent of Council Members' Warnings

Chamran also explained the state of responses to city council members' warnings: "Written warnings are answered, and if we do not receive a response, we follow the matter up. Each warning relates to a specific subject, and council members raise these warnings within the framework of their duties."

He added: "According to the municipality's deputy for council affairs, more than 99 percent of council members' warnings have been answered, and the related figures have also been made available to us."

The Metro Wagon Contract Has Still Not Been Settled

Referring to the latest state of the metro wagon contract, the head of Tehran's council said: "Although the wagons have been transferred onto a ship, the related contract has still not been concluded. This was not a promise but a plan that has not yet become operational."

Stating that the number of wagons foreseen in this contract has reached 800, he continued: "Tehran's share is more than 1,000 wagons that must join the fleet. Resolving this issue requires an agreement between the governments of Iran and China and is beyond the duties of Tehran's municipality."

Chamran also said about the state of the new buses: "A number of electric buses have entered the country and some of them are operating in Tehran, which has brought changes to the public transport fleet."

He added: "Two-section buses have also arrived and can considerably help the public transport fleet. A number of others have been purchased that can be transferred overland. The purchase of these buses was made by a company, and the same company must provide the means needed to transport them."

Chamran's Explanations on the Movement of Metrobuses in Tehran

On how metrobuses move across the city, the head of Tehran's council stated: "Instead of three-section buses, two single-section or two-section buses can be purchased; of course, three-section buses run on straight routes."

Referring to the possibility of modifications around Enghelab Square, he said: "Modifications may be applied in this area, but in my opinion there is no necessity for this work. These buses are in good shape both in terms of mass passenger movement and in appearance."

The Request to Impeach the Mayor Is Not Against the Law

Reacting to a council member's request to impeach the mayor of Tehran, Chamran said: "Any council member can raise such a request based on the law. Recommendations may have been made not to do this, but this action is not against the law."

He stressed: "Nevertheless, the country's public interests must also be taken into account."

The Promises of the Sixth Term of the City Council Are Being Followed Up

In response to a question about the extent to which the promises of the sixth term of urban management have been fulfilled, the head of Tehran's council stated: "I have no insistence on comparing different terms. In Mr. Ahmadinejad's time, we had just joined the council, and the promises that were made came to fruition."

He continued: "Today too, the promises that are approved within the council's plans must be implemented. In this regard, we have figures and reports on how far the promises have been operationalized."
