Mehr: The spokesperson of the water industry stated that the country's dams are well-prepared to reduce flood-induced damages; however, the presence of dams along rivers does not mean absolute flood control.
Pointing to the identification of 9,000 water-passing structures and river paths for cleanup and increasing regional safety, water industry spokesperson Eisa Bozorgzadeh said: The country's dams have the necessary readiness to mitigate flood damages; nonetheless, the presence of dams along rivers does not imply absolute flood control.
Stating that currently about 44 percent of the country's dam capacity is full, he noted that the remaining capacity can be used to harness and store a portion of runoff resulting from floods.
In a television interview, he continued: Nevertheless, the effectiveness of dams depends on the location of the rainfall, and if the precipitation core forms downstream of a dam, the dam's capacity will not be effective in controlling floods in that area.
Emphasizing that citizens should not ignore the risk of floods simply because there is a dam along the rivers, Bozorgzadeh clarified: Severe rainfall may occur in areas not covered by the control of dams, and in such conditions, the probability of floods still exists.
The water industry spokesperson considered observing safety tips by citizens as the most crucial measure to reduce financial and life losses caused by floods, stating: People must avoid riverbanks and floodways, refraining from putting their lives, families, and assets at risk of floods.
