According to "Varzesh3", Courtois, in the last moments before the holding of this Sunday's El Clásico against Barcelona was barred from presence in this important and fate-determining match. This match will be held at 23:30 Iran time at Spotify Camp Nou stadium. The club Real Madrid announced that this team's goalkeeper, due to contracting the flu disease, cannot take to the field in the encounter against Barcelona. Illia Voloshyn, the Ukrainian goalkeeper of Real Madrid C, took his place in the list of called-up players.
This is Courtois's first absence in the current season, in which he has been present in Real Madrid's main lineup in all official matches. Until now this season he has crossed the border of a thousand minutes of play and in 12 matches has taken to the field for a total of 1,080 minutes. Courtois had kept his goal shut in two matches against Málaga and Villarreal. This goalkeeper had shone in the match against Leipzig with several spectacular saves. Real Madrid have lost one of their key pieces.
Considering Courtois's absence, most likely Andriy Lunin will be Real Madrid's goalkeeper in the encounter against Barcelona. This Ukrainian goalkeeper has not yet found the opportunity to play in the current season, and his last presence in an official match goes back to the month of May 2026 and the encounter against Espanyol, in which Real Madrid won by the result of 2-0.
If Lunin is ultimately chosen as the main goalkeeper, he will experience his fifth El Clásico. This goalkeeper from Krasnohrad, in confrontation with Barcelona, has had three victories and one defeat and has conceded a total of seven goals. In these matches he has not yet succeeded in registering a clean sheet. Lunin's last presence in El Clásico goes back to October 2024, in which Real Madrid were defeated by the result of 4-0. Robert Lewandowski (two goals), Raphinha and Lamine Yamal were Barcelona's scorers in that match.
Courtois's absence will without doubt be one of the worst possible news for José Mourinho. Barcelona's brilliant performance this season and this team's attacking power, with the presence of players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, and also Real's defensive weakness, had already caused much concern about tonight's match among this team's fans, but the reassurance of Courtois's presence had improved the conditions somewhat.
Now this Belgian star is not present in Real Madrid's goal, and this will without doubt also cause the weakening of the morale of the players present in the defensive line, who may not enjoy much readiness for cooperation with Lunin, and this matter will make the work much more difficult for them at their powerful rival's home stadium.
