According to Mehr News Agency, Parviz Sorouri, at the World White Cane Day ceremony and among the blind, stating that limitations never mean being barred from benefiting from social services, said: The speed of service delivery and of making up for past shortcomings in making construction, service and urban transport spaces accessible for the disabled and the blind must be increased.
Emphasizing the need to create a suggestion system for all members of society, he said: In many individuals of society there are enormous abilities and capacities which, unfortunately, due to the lack of a suitable structure, find no opportunity to emerge. The duty of the governance system and urban management is to provide a listening ear and a suitable platform for receiving suggestions and turning potentials into actions, so that we may witness the flourishing of society.
The vice-chairman of the Islamic City Council of Tehran, emphasizing that society must trust the abilities of the blind, recalled the experience of the presence of blind representatives in past terms of the Tehran City Council and stated: The presence of Messrs. Shakeri and Saberi in the arena of decision-making and policy-making proved that apparent limitations are no obstacle to great activities. Individuals who, despite severe disabilities, were present in the council were among the most active, hardest-working and most influential members in policy-making.
Sorouri concluded by noting: The ultimate goal of urban management is the full realization of social justice and providing a ground where all citizens, with any level of ability, can equally use the facilities and capacities of the city of Tehran.
