The director of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the election of a new UN Secretary-General would help the organization adapt to the multipolar world order and strengthen the voice of developing countries.
According to Mehr News Agency, citing TASS, Kirill Loginov, director of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, announced that Moscow hopes the election of a new Secretary-General of the United Nations will help the organization adapt to the realities of the multipolar world order, strengthen the voice of developing countries, and end the dictatorship of the West in the UN Secretariat.
Loginov, on the occasion of United Nations Day, wrote on his Telegram channel that efforts must be made to restore the spirit of collective cooperation to the activities of this organization, to adhere completely to the principles of the United Nations Charter, and to adapt its mechanisms to the current realities of the world.
He also emphasized the necessity of setting aside behind-the-scenes agreements and replacing them with honest dialogue based on mutual respect, and considered the strengthening of the voice of developing countries among Moscow's expected priorities.
This Russian diplomat, referring to the existing problems in the functioning of the United Nations, emphasized the necessity of all-out efforts to fully restore the credibility and position of this international institution, so that its constructive capacity is fully realized.
Loginov said: The United Nations, despite its structural crisis and the efforts of a number of countries to use it in the direction of their narrow and selfish interests, is still the irreplaceable platform for dialogue among countries.
The term of António Guterres as Secretary-General of the United Nations ends on December 31, 2026. Guterres has held this position since 2017. Based on the process of selecting the Secretary-General, the Security Council proposes a candidate for this position to the General Assembly, and the General Assembly officially approves his appointment.
