According to ILNA, citing Agence France-Presse, Barack Obama, on Saturday at a Democratic Party election rally in the city of Cleveland, Ohio, criticizing the Trump administration's performance, said: “After two years of unprecedented chaos, corruption and inefficiency in modern times, you now have the chance to say enough is enough.” He added that the people of Ohio will vote for change in this election.
The former US president held the Trump administration responsible for the increase in living costs and said: “The current president made a series of wrong decisions, but most importantly, he started an unnecessary war that nobody wanted.”
Obama also asked voters to participate in the election as early as possible. He, who still enjoys high popularity among Democratic supporters, is campaigning to support the party's candidates in the congressional midterm elections.
Polls in Ohio indicate a slight lead for the Democrats, although the race in this state is predicted to be close. At the national level too, the possibility of the Democrats regaining the House of Representatives majority is raised, but the race for the Senate is assessed as more difficult. Obama is also scheduled to attend another rally on Saturday evening in the city of Detroit, Michigan.
Obama's criticism of the consequences of the war against Iran
In another part of his remarks, Obama said Iran now possesses a power in the Strait of Hormuz that effectively resembles a “veto right.” He also cited the reduction of US missile reserves and the rise in the prices of oil, diesel and gasoline as consequences of the war against Iran.
The former US president, questioning the achievements of this war, pointed to Trump's remarks about victory and said that despite seven months passing since the announcement of this victory, US allies and bases have been targeted, a number of American service members have been killed, and hundreds have been wounded.
Obama emphasized that the war against Iran, in addition to raising fuel prices, has increased living costs and the price of almost all goods and services.
Earlier, Chris Murphy, a Democratic US senator, had also said that 70 percent of the people of this country oppose the war against Iran.
The US congressional midterm elections will be held on November 3, 2026, during which all seats of the House of Representatives, about one-third of Senate seats and the governorships of 36 states will be put to a vote.
