ISNA: Criticizing the US war against Iran, the former US president acknowledged that Iran had no nuclear weapons, and in a jab at the current US president, said that the White House has come to resemble "Saddam's palace."

Speaking on Saturday evening during a campaign rally in Ohio, former US president Barack Obama stated: Sometimes factors beyond a president's control thwart the best-laid plans. A president does not control the entire economy, but that is not the case here. In this instance, the actions of this administration are directly responsible for rising costs.

According to CNN, the former US president went on to criticize the war against Iran, saying: The current president (Donald Trump) chose to make a series of bad decisions. Trump broke several campaign promises he made when returning to the White House in 2024. Voters frustrated with the economy heard Trump make numerous promises to control costs. He also promised to impose tariffs that would reduce the deficit. He promised to keep us out of unnecessary wars. He promised to pass a "beautiful healthcare bill" that would make everyone's life better!

Referring to the dire economic situation of the United States, Obama said: I think we should examine how those promises panned out. If you thought everything was too expensive before, everything is more expensive now. Mortgage costs, healthcare, utility bills, and interest rates have risen, and the economic squeeze on American families has tightened. Gasoline prices have reached $4 to $5 a gallon, and diesel prices have surpassed $6 and continue to climb. As a former president, I know some economic issues are beyond a president's control, but the current situation is the result of a series of wrong decisions by the current president.

Acknowledging that 7 months after the start of the war against Iran, hundreds of Americans have been killed and wounded and US missile reserves are running low, he said: The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the factor behind the surge in the prices of oil, diesel, and nearly all goods in America. No one doubts that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has been a factor in rising diesel prices. Furthermore, Iran had no nuclear weapons and there was no need to fire even a single missile.

Making a sarcastic reference to Donald Trump's actions, Barack Obama said: Trump has made the White House look like Saddam's palace! Instead of lowering prices, he seeks to enrich himself, his family, and his friends.

Continuing at the campaign rally, Obama stated that US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is "not serious," emphasizing: Hegseth is heavily focused on important matters such as our soldiers' parting lines and testosterone levels and livestreaming executions because he thinks that's how you cultivate that macho warrior spirit! How much time do you think this Secretary of War spends looking at himself in the mirror in the mornings?! He fixes his hair because that's what warriors look like! But the problem is that you ultimately have to pay the price for their lack of seriousness.

Barack Obama pledged that with Democrats in Congress following the November midterm elections, the party can demonstrate "real leadership" and "concrete plans" to lower healthcare, housing, and utility costs.

He added in conclusion: We cannot simply oppose this administration's behavior. We must show them what the future could look like on the other side of this administration.
