Moqiseh: The Tajik-Persian Language Must Take Its Place in UN Documents

According to Mehr's correspondent, the scientific and research meeting of the Language and Terminology Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the National Library of Tajikistan, attended by a group of researchers, linguists and university professors from various countries of the region, including Iran. At this meeting, which was accompanied by the secretariat and supervision of Dr. Sakhidad Rahmatollahzadeh, proposals were raised about the officialization of the Tajik-Persian language at the United Nations and the continuation of regional conferences.

To learn about the details of this scientific event and its achievements, Mohammad Hassan Moqiseh, one of the researchers and participants in this meeting, answered Mehr's questions.

First, about the quality of the holding of this meeting and the invitation made, he said: I, with the official invitation of the "Language and Terminology Committee of the country of Tajikistan" (which operates under the executive apparatus of the Presidency of Tajikistan), together with a group of researchers and university professors, attended this country's National Library from October 15 to 18, 2026 (23 to 26 Mehr 1405).

He added: This meeting was met with wide welcome, and in addition to Iranian researchers, university professors, Persian language activists, linguists, lexicographers and etymologists from the countries of Russia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and also scholars and experts of Tajikistan itself participated in it.

Moqiseh continued about the process of reviewing and presenting articles at this conference: Of the total of 200 articles sent to the conference secretariat, 147 scientific articles were selected. On Friday (October 16, 2026), after the reading of the message of the Presidency of Tajikistan to this conference, nearly 100 scientific articles were read in the hall of the National Library of Tajikistan and put to scientific discussion and exchange of views. All these articles and the process of holding the meeting were managed and implemented under the direct supervision of the head of the Language and Terminology Committee of the country of Tajikistan, Dr. Sakhidad Rahmatollahzadeh.

He added: At the end of this meeting, an important scientific resolution was issued, two clauses of which are of special importance: first, the emphasis that once every five years, a meeting of linguists and men of letters of the countries sharing a culture and language be held in one of the countries of the region; and second, presenting an official proposal to the United Nations that the "Tajik-Persian language" be accepted as one of the official languages in UN documents.

This researcher continued regarding the scientific standing of the Iranians participating in this meeting: The Iranians who attended this session were, frankly, at a very high level in terms of presenting scientific articles. Eight university professors and researchers in the fields of literature, psychology, lexicography and etymology presented their articles in person at this conference, and a number of professors also presented their articles in absentia.

He added: I must state this historical point that after the independence of the country of Tajikistan in the year 1991, one of the main concerns of the high officials of this country was to attend to the purification and safeguarding of the Tajik-Persian language. In the period when Tajikistan was administered under the Soviet Union, this country was forced to use many Russian words, terms and phrases in the geographical, administrative, military and medical fields. But after independence, with the remarkable activity of this country's men of letters — among them the late Professor Mohammadjan Shakouri Bukharai — fortunately, the tendency to create authentic Persian words and find equivalents for foreign terms and names (especially Russian) began. So far, about 3,000 Persian words have been coined and approved in this country to replace foreign words.
