The head of Greater Tehran Traffic Police announced the enforcement of more than one million stationary violations in the month of Mehr and named double parking and obstruction of passage as the most recorded violations of this month.
- Brigadier General Seyed Abolfazl Mousavipour, head of Greater Tehran Traffic Police, announcing these statistics, said: In the month of Mehr this year, more than 1,131,000 stationary violations on the capital's roads have been enforced. This figure shows the high volume of violations that directly affect the flow of urban traffic and form a considerable part of the daily traffic knots.
According to him, these violations include double parking on roads, stopping in no-standing places, absolutely prohibited stopping, stopping within the boundary of intersections and squares, public vehicles stopping outside designated stations, stopping in places reserved for the disabled and veterans, stopping on sidewalks, and even vehicles stopping to sell goods at the roadside, and any kind of stopping that leads to obstruction of passage and disruption of traffic.
The head of Greater Tehran Traffic Police stated: Based on Article 163 of the Traffic Regulations and the table of violations, all the aforementioned cases are considered stationary violations, and traffic police officers are obliged to enforce the law in this regard.
He, referring to the fact that double parking and obstruction of passage were the main agents of the capital's Mehr traffic knots, added: These violations not only increase citizens' travel time, but also provide the ground for dangerous driving behaviors, continuous honking and ultimately public dissatisfaction.
Brigadier General Mousavipour, emphasizing that dealing with stationary violations continues continuously on all the capital's roads, noted: Citizens' cooperation with the police has a decisive role in reducing these violations and smoothing traffic, and it is expected that drivers, by observing stopping regulations, play their part in improving the traffic situation.
Brigadier General Mousavipour said in conclusion:
A short stop on the street may, from the driver's view, be a few seconds; but for the hundreds of cars behind, it means minutes of waiting, and for pedestrians, danger.
Before stopping, make sure you are allowed to park; your right choice has a direct share in the smoothness of Tehran's traffic.
