According to ILNA, Mehdi Chamran, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 441st session of the Islamic Council of Tehran, said the operating bylaw of the city's electronic services offices would be reviewed today, adding: "Four audit reports, the review of registration plaques, the amendment of the orchards law and an investment plan are also on today's session agenda."
Regarding the Milad Tehran tourism company, he recalled: "A company existed, but we did not have a strong custodian to handle affairs in this sector. It was decided that all tourism complexes would be organized within a single company. On this basis, the Milad Tehran tourism company began operating and affairs are progressing well."
Chamran said: "Tourism in Tehran is weak, and citizens are still unfamiliar with part of the capital's historical attractions. We hope launching this company can help develop tourism."
On the drying of trees in the Chitgar forest park, he stated: "Our plan was to invite the district mayor to the council to explain the matter."
Pointing to the resolution of the Chitgar park water problem over the past two years, Chamran noted: "If this had not been done, the rest of the trees would have dried up as well. The same process was followed in the other sections. We allocated a budget for irrigating green spaces and drew up a plan so that we would not run into problems. We no longer want to use wells for irrigation."
Stating that written warnings are answered and that if we do not receive an answer we follow it up, he said: "Each warning concerns a specific subject; council members issue warnings in line with their duty and they are answered. The municipality's deputy for council affairs has announced that more than 99 percent of members' warnings have been answered, and they have provided these figures to us as well."
Chamran said that, unfortunately, although the metro wagons have been transferred onto a ship, the metro wagon contract still remains outstanding: "This was not a promise; it was a plan, but it has not yet become operational. This contract reached 800 wagons, although Tehran's share is more than 1,000 wagons that must be imported. This is an issue that must be resolved between the governments of Iran and China and goes beyond the municipality's remit."
He continued: "A number of electric buses have arrived in the country and some of them are operating in Tehran and have brought about a transformation in this area. Two-section buses have also arrived, which can greatly help the fleet. A number of others have been purchased that can be transported overland. The purchase was made by a company, and that company must provide the means to transport these buses."
Regarding the movement of metrobuses in the city, the head of the Islamic Council of Tehran recalled: "Instead of three-section buses, we can buy two single-section or two-section buses. Of course, three-section buses run on straight routes. Modifications may be made at Enghelab Square, but in my opinion they are not necessary. These buses are in good shape both for mass passenger transport and in appearance."
According to Shahr News Agency, Chamran, on a member's request to impeach the mayor, recalled: "Any member can act on this matter based on the law. Perhaps it has been recommended that this not be done, but in any case this is not against the law; however, the country's public interests must be taken into account."
On fulfilling the promises of the sixth term, the head of Tehran's city council stated: "I have no insistence on comparing terms. In Mr. Ahmadinejad's time, we had just joined the council and every promise that was made was fulfilled. It is the same today. Promises approved in the council's plan must be implemented. We have figures and reports on how far the promises have been operationalized."
