According to ILNA, citing the Associated Press, the people of Bulgaria go to the polls today — Sunday — to elect their next president; an election whose main axis is formed by the growing economic problems and the Ukraine war.
The candidates have also tried to address public concern about the increase in energy prices and inflation, as many families, especially in rural areas, are facing difficulty in making a living.
This vote is considered the first serious test for the 'Progressive Bulgaria' party, which, with a leaning toward Moscow and the support of Rumen Radev, the president of Bulgaria, had managed to win the April elections.
Polling centers opened at 7 a.m. and are scheduled to close at 8 p.m. Initial results are expected to be announced on Monday.
Despite the unprecedented number of candidates, the fate of this race is expected to be determined in a runoff between Iliana Yotova, the incumbent president, and Andrey Gyurov, the former interim prime minister.
