Al Jazeera announced, quoting a senior Iranian official, that a Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran a few hours ago and has begun its negotiations with the aim of helping to provide the security and stability of the region.
This Iranian official, pointing to the continuation of contacts between Tehran and Doha under conditions of rising regional tensions, assessed the mediation efforts positively, but said this process always runs up against the US government's failure to abide by its commitments.
Axios wrote: The prime minister of the Zionist regime, on the eve of the elections, has put Trump under pressure for greater support.
He emphasized that the main obstacle to attaining a diplomatic solution is not the mediation process, but Washington's opposition to Iran's legitimate demands.
Qatar's Role in Mediation
The Qatari delegation's arrival in Tehran comes under conditions in which regional tensions have increased the necessity of finding diplomatic solutions to prevent the escalation of the crisis. Qatar, in past years, has tried to use its relations with Iran and the United States to facilitate communications and mediation between the parties.
However, the Iranian official's remarks show that Tehran still regards the dispute over America's demands and commitments as the main obstacle to the progress of the negotiations. From this perspective, the success of Doha's efforts depends on the extent of Washington's readiness to examine Iran's demands and on the possibility of attaining an understanding acceptable to both sides.
