According to Varzesh3, Bayern Munich in their first game after the bitter incident that befell Vincent Kompany at the training ground and caused him to be taken to hospital by helicopter while unconscious, managed to pass a difficult test and, with a 3-1 victory over Freiburg, retook the top of the Bundesliga table.
Two days after Kompany fainted in training and was transferred to hospital, his charges, this time led by Aaron Danks, the Belgian coach's assistant, put in a powerful first-half display and went into the dressing room with a two-goal lead in this half. Dayot Upamecano in the 16th minute and Serge Gnabry in the 42nd minute scored Bayern's goals. Gnabry's goal was his 100th goal in Bundesliga competitions.
Freiburg, who had previously won all three of their home games this season, showed in the second half that they are not a toothless team, and after several brilliant saves by Mio Backhaus that kept them in the game, finally in the 82nd minute reduced the deficit with an own goal by Tom Bischof. The hosts' pressure continued in the final minutes, and Jonas Urbig in the 90+1st minute made a spectacular save to prevent the match from being drawn level.

Bayern, however, breathed a sigh of relief in the final moments. In the 90+5th minute, Michael Olise took advantage of a strange mistake by Backhaus, seized the ball and scored the third goal to seal his team's victory.
Bayern were without several important stars in this match. Joshua Kimmich was still absent due to a family bereavement, and Manuel Neuer, Kim Min-jae, Luis Díaz, Aleksandar Pavlović and Jamal Musiala were also unable to accompany the team. The captain's armband went to Jonathan Tah, and Konrad Laimer played in the defensive midfield position.

Harry Kane, on the eve of the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony as one of the three main nominees for the Ballon d'Or, could not score in this game. The English striker missed his first serious chance with a header in the 57th minute, and after that he got few opportunities.
This victory made Bayern, with 22 points from eight games, retake the top of the table from Dortmund once again. Danks' team will host Dortmund at the Allianz Arena next Saturday. Before that, Bayern face Magdeburg in the German Cup, and then in the the UEFA Champions League they will face Atlético Madrid.

Kompany will not sit on Bayern's bench in any of these games. Max Eberl had announced that the Belgian coach's return is not a matter of "a few days" and will probably take several weeks. For now, Bayern must continue on their path without the head of their bench; a path that, despite important absences and the psychological pressure of recent events, still continues at the top of the table.
