According to Mehr's reporter, the World Senior Freestyle Wrestling Championships will be followed from October 29 to November 1 in Astana, Kazakhstan, and Mohammad Nokhodi, Iran's representative in the 79 kg weight class, hopes that after several appearances on the world podium, this time he will obtain the gold medal of these competitions.
Nokhodi, who so far has five world medals in his record, reached the world silver medal in the years 2021 and 2022 and in the last three editions of these competitions also gained three consecutive bronze medals. This Iranian wrestler last year, after knee surgery and absence from international competitions, attended the World Championships and, despite the effect of the injury on his performance, reached the bronze medal.
Iran's representative has had better conditions in the current year and, with a more active presence in international competitions, has gained 12 consecutive victories. Nokhodi's performance in the two weight classes of 79 and 86 kg has also shown that he still has the ability to compete with the first-level contenders of world wrestling. Nokhodi, at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, in the 86 kg weight class, took to the mat for the first time and reached the beautiful gold medal of those competitions. He is also present in the list of those dispatched to the World Championships and will take to the mat in the 79 kg weight class.

The American website FloWrestling, in its preview of the 79 kg weight class, has introduced Nokhodi as one of the four main contenders for the championship and, in its final prediction, has considered the gold medal of this weight class for the Iranian wrestler. In this assessment, Nokhodi has been mentioned as a wrestler who, if he reaches peak readiness, will be one of the most complete freestyle wrestlers of this weight class.
Of course, the path to the championship is not easy for Iran's representative. Levi Haines, world vice-champion from the United States, Ismail Kaniev from Russia and Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov, Olympic silver medalist from Belarus, are counted among Nokhodi's most important rivals. Also, Jabrail Gadzhiev from the Republic of Azerbaijan and Soldkho Olonbayar from Mongolia can also play a role in the competition to gain a medal.
With these conditions, on the threshold of the World Championships, Nokhodi has the opportunity, after gaining three consecutive bronze medals, to break the spell of not reaching the world's first podium and obtain his first world gold.
