According to KhabarOnline, Indian author Arundhati Roy warned about the power of Big Tech companies and the consequences of the expansion of artificial intelligence during the "People's AI Assembly" gathering, organized in collaboration with the AI Now Institute. The media organization More Perfect Union published a portion of her remarks on Instagram.

Roy stated that major tech companies aim to replace governments and integrate into governance structures—a trend she says threatens public freedoms and authorities. To illustrate her concern, she pointed to the situation of Indian workers who must mount cameras on their foreheads to record their movements so that robots can eventually replace them.

This data-recording method can capture hand movements and the execution of daily tasks from the worker's own perspective. Such footage is used to train artificial intelligence systems and robots, as it helps machines learn the steps of performing a physical task from human behavior. At the same time, these very tools can also be used to monitor employee performance.

Roy's remarks sparked reactions on social media. One Instagram user described the situation as a "dystopian nightmare" and asked what would happen if workers refused to cooperate. Another user noted that this footage could ultimately help robots learn human hand movements.

Roy's concern is not limited to job elimination alone. She views this trend as part of a broader issue concerning who controls technology, who benefits from it, and upon whom the economic and social costs of automation fall.

A report by Yahoo News does not provide independent details regarding the number of workers subject to this practice or the responsible companies. Therefore, the claim regarding Indian workers being forced to use cameras and being replaced by robots in this report is based on the statements of Arundhati Roy.
