According to Varzesh 3, in the framework of the second week of the Polish PlusLiga, Cholem—featuring Iranian outside hitter Amirhossein Esfandiar—is set to face the title contender Asseco Resovia, a decorated team that has also begun the season with challenges.
Asseco Resovia, seven-time champions of the Polish league, are looking to stabilize their standing following a less-than-stellar performance against Czestochowa. In that match, Resovia started the first two sets very strongly and put their opponent under pressure, but in the crucial sets, the Rzeszow team's defensive quality dropped drastically. Weakness in reception, alongside an inability to contain the opponent's attacks, pushed the match to a fifth set, and ultimately Czestochowa snatched the victory from Resovia by a two-point margin.
Today's match, on Sunday, could hold its own distinct complexities. Cholem features three former Asseco Resovia players—Yacine Louati, Moustapha M'Baye, and Cezary Sapinski—who were in the starting lineup against Stalon Gorzow and are thoroughly familiar with Resovia's style of play.
Meanwhile, all eyes are locked on Amirhossein Esfandiar's performance. Scoring 26 points against Gorzow, this Iranian outside hitter emerged as his team's main star and is now considered one of Cholem's greatest assets in countering Resovia's defensive strength.
